Life
Edward Yousab al-Dowiry was born on 5 March 1905 in al-Dowir, Abu Tig, Sohag; he graduated from the Coptic Orthodox Clerical College in 1927 and taught there[1]. He took monastic vows on 12 November 1948 at the Monastery of St. Samuel the Confessor as Fr. Yousatus al-Samouely, then moved to the Monastery of the Virgin at Al-Baramous as Fr. Antonious al-Baramousy[1]. He was ordained priest in 1951 and qummos in 1952[1]. On 19 September 1965 Pope Cyril VI consecrated him Bishop of Menoufia with the name Dioscorus; he died on 4 May 1976 and Pope Shenouda III led the funeral prayers[1].
His works include «A Brief History of Christianity to Our Time» (published by the Monastery of the Virgin at Al-Baramous) and books on St. Shenouda the Archimandrite, on Al-Baramous Monastery and on the Cyrillian Liturgy[1]. The Coptic Library blog says the book is by Fr. Yostos al-Dowiry, later Anba Dioscorus, and covers the history of Christianity up to Pope Cyril VI in two parts combined in one volume[3]. Coptic Treasures lists the book under Bishop Dioscorus of Monofeya, reviewed by Archdeacon Dr. Mikhael Maxi Iskandar[2].
Where the sources disagree
IDENTIFICATION (probable, not certain for the quoted page): two independent Coptic sites attribute «موجز تاريخ المسيحية» to Anba Dioscorus, Bishop of Menoufia (d. 1976). No other modern bishop of that name with a book of that title turned up, so he is very likely the «مثلث الرحمات الأنبا ديوسقورس» the site quotes, and clearly not Pope Dioscorus I (5th c.). NOT VERIFIED: the quoted p. 244 and the Pelagian-heresy passage (the edition and pagination were not seen; neither site gives publisher or year of the book). Source discrepancies: Coptic Treasures' person page notes the book's catalogue entry names Dr. Mikhael Maxi Iskandar without clarifying author vs. reviewer; its date for the monastic name 'Antonious' looks garbled (1905, probably 1951). Spelling varies: ديسقوروس / ديوسقورس.
