Theosis is the process by which man is united to God from glory to glory. The righteous will be deified on the last day, but this process must begin from now, through love for God and keeping His commandments, and the believer is helped in it by living in the Church and by sharing in her Mysteries. Theosis is not merely a free gift of the Holy Spirit, but also requires man’s participation. It is therefore necessarily a dynamic process that involves degrees of communion with God, and a religion that rests on personal experience
