### Metropolitan Nicholas Antoniou says in ‘Aqīdat al-Ta’allūh fī al-Kanīsa al-Urthūdhuksiyya [The Doctrine of Theosis in the Orthodox Church], p. 1:

The goal of Orthodox doctrines is to lead us to life in the Father, with the presence of the living Christ in us, by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is realized through the holy sacramental life of the Church, so that we may transcend our corrupt human nature, and rise and attain true life, and be deified, that is, partake of the divine nature; and that after purifying ourselves from the passions and shameful desires. The doctrine of theosis, divine communion, participation in the life of the Uncreated, union with the divine nature, is one of the doctrines of our Orthodox Church, and whoever does not believe what our Orthodox Church affirms of doctrines separates himself from the Church and is cut off from communion with her.
